Sailing

Two classes of sailing, Individual (2.4mR) and Team (Sonar). Sailer's compete against each other and the elements on the open sea.
group of Sonar sail boats courtesy of SCA

The course changes depending on weather and is scored over 9 races per discipline. Open to blind, visually impaired and disabilities affecting movement and/or trunk balance - classified for Sonar, but not in 2.4mR (the boats' design reduce the disadvantages of a disability).

Sonar: 3 Crew, each classified 1-7 according to degree of disability, compete in one competition. The total Crew points cannot exceed 14 thereby ensuring the presence of more severely disabled athletes

2.4mR: the one-man crew version, consisting of a single hull 4.1m long. No classification system but a minimum disability is required. Navigated and controlled from the sitting postion in amidships with the controls at arms length, the boat is the same design for able bodied or disabled sailers.
