Saul Mendoza takes Gold in the T54 Mens 1500m.
This is one of the more high profile of the wheelchair racing track events
and generally gets a good turnout.
Unfortunately the race was at 09.00 and very few people managed to get to the Olympic Stadium for such an early start time.
Our own correspondent, GP claimed he was in his seat at 08.00 sharp and was among only a few hundred specatators to witness Saul Mendoza's winning time of 3 mins 4.88 seconds.Silver went to Ernst van Dyk from South Africa.
GP reported that Canada's defending champion Jeff Adams, who finished fifth was not impressed at the scheduling
"To have a race like this buried on a Tuesday morning
is just unacceptable. It is a showcase event and it should have a showcase
crowd." said Adams
