Athlete: Sonja Peters Event: Wheelchair Tennis Country: The Netherlands |
27 year old Sonja Peters, from Eindhoven in The Netherlands, is competing in her second Paralympics.
Currently ranked Nº3 in the world, Sonja is another Dutch lady with an excellent chance for the Women's Wheelchair Tennis Gold medal in Athens.
Wins this year over rival Daniela Di Toro (Australian world Nº2) in the Dutch Open and Australian Open strengthen Sonja's challenge for a place on the podium.
Sonja started playing wheelchair tennis in 1993 and since 1998 has been a World Top 5 player in both Singles and Doubles.
When not competing on the NEC Wheelchair Tennis circuit Sonja is studying Paediatric Neuropsychology at the free University of Amsterdam.
Sonja helps in the development of the game by training junior players in Holland and assisting with wheelchair tennis projects in developing countries.
