Cycling
Both Road and Track events are classified according to disability into 13 groups. Each group participates in a distance or against the clock for a medal event. |
Apart from modifications for tricycle and handcycling events, the Rules and criteria are the same as those applied to the corresponding olympic disciplines.
Blind or visually impaired athletes have 3 classifications. Lower limb disabilities are graded depending on location of amputation and with/without prosthesis. Cerebral palsy athletes are in 4 categories, 1/2 use tricycles, 3/4 bicycles. There are 2 divisions for hand-cycling athletes, depending on level of paraplegia or tetraplegia.
The Track events, comprising men's and women's pusuit events at 3000m and 4000m, the 1000m is against the clock. A 3 lap individual sprint and a 3 cyclist (based on classification points system) team sprint of 1 lap each. The track is for bicycle events only.
Road events are categorised by
Endurance and Time Trials.
Athletes from all disability groups compete in 25 events of Endurance over
differing distances from a minimum of 15k (class 1/2 cerebral palsy) to a
maximum of 120k (visually impaired men). The same range of disability classifications
compete against the clock in 25 events (Time Trials).
