Profiles of some of the Nations at
the Paralympics 2004
Vietnam
Represented in track, powerlifting and swimming by 4 athletes - more competitors than in Sydney where Vietnam had representation in only powerlifting and athletics. Confidence is high following success at the recent ASEAN ParaGames, where Vietnam was the host nation. |
Like many south east asian countries infrastructure problems and lack of medical facilities are important barriers for disabled people to overcome - before they can consider any sports activity. |
Vietnam will be encouraged that they are sending more athletes to Athens than they did to Sydney. Recently confirmed attendees are Chau Hoang Tuyet Loan and Nguyen Thi Hong from the Powerlifting event, both lifted good weights at the Hanoi games. Nguyen Quang Vuong in the men's swimming event. Plus Vietnam's top Women's Track athlete - Nhu Thi Khoa - pictured above, top right.
