Group B Round-Up Match 4 (Group A didn't play
today)
See
Table
Holland v Iran 83-51
Japan v Greece 71-37
USA v Germany 71-49
Really the surprise came in the ease with which
the Americans despatched the Germans. German shooting was not good enough
- netting just 18 from 58 field
goal attempts.
Having put a hundred points on the board against Greece in the previous match,
they lost their edge today.
USA will have gained in confidence and the fact that 3 players (Matt Scott,
Jeremy Lade and Jeff Glasbrenner) got into double digit scoring will have
pleased the USA Coach Mo Phillips.
Greece can take some comfort in that they narrowed their losing
margin to a tournament best of 'only' 34 points against Japan.
In the other Group B game this morning Iran put on a valiant display, but
will readily admit that the Dutch were simply bigger and better. Iran needed
to have beaten Japan (on tuesday) to stand any realistic chance of progressing.
Iran will be looking to play for the ninth spot.
Group B is poised with 3 teams on 7 points, the remaining game may produce the tactic of trying to avoid Canada in the net round - so there is still a lot to play for.
